One more time...

It is obvious that my husband and I so thoroughly enjoyed having our son that we decided to have another one. I mean, what other explanation could there be for doing this madness again?

Yes, that's right, Bajan Lily is pregnant; our two youngest will be 18 months apart - which will be fine when they're older than 2 but bodes for a rather interesting journey in between.

We've had our first for ages, but it feels like in such a small space of time we've gone from having just the one, (and subsequently spoiling her rotten with gadgets and holidays) to having three. It still scares me...

What also scares me is the effect this will have on my hair -  why? Well, I have shared with you the mystery that was my hair falling out at the front shortly after my SisterLocking session; my angst and panic as I watched locks thin at the root; and my despair as some fell off.  I am now in the recovery phase (I'll take some photos to show you).

<< remember these posts? the pictures make it very clear.... see post and comments at 'The Freak Out'and  Calming Down >>

Basically, if you look at the the base of those 'fragile' locs, you will see a fairly stout healthy root... an inch or two up and you come across a skinny skinny skinny section (where the hair had come away from the root) and travelling onwards towards the end of my hair you will again find a fairly thick section. Kinda like an hour glass with an elongated abdomen... so my hair has recovered and is growing strong again.

BUT

With another baby on the way, it is highly likely that I will face the same scenario all over again... growth spurts, hair loss, recovery... I am not relishing the thought of losing any of my hair let alone losing entire locs...

Guess I'll keep you posted.

A bientot.

CONGRATULATIONS to you and your family! I risk the chance of sounding naive, but I am sure every pregnancy will have different effects on our hair. (I'm not a Mom...yet) Hopefully, this one will be different, in a good way, for your hair...Warm Wishes :-D

Hey Coco my friend,

Thanks for your encouragement and congratulations :)

Unfortunately, the only thing that may differ between pregnancies is the amount of hair you lose afterwards but generally it is an established fact that you will lose some (simply because your hair needs to enter that state before growing again). It's called telogen effluvium - and is one of the reasons why seasoned SL consultants and lockticians do not recommend you get locked up until your baby is about a year old (ie so your hair can be fully recovered and you avoid lost lock drama!)

Babes - I am sure you will be fine this time .... to be on the safe side - start preparing for for number 4 & 5 ......

You're right! Losing hair after a baby can be a bit traumatic, but considering that you've been there and done that, you'd also know that it'll grow back!
Congrats to you both!!

It's odd that your hair falls out during pregnancy; I've had 4 pregnancies and each time my hair grew like weeds,,,maybe it was the prenatal vitamins that I was taking....everyone I know who has been pregnant had the same results. Do you take vitamins during your pregnancies? At any rate, congratulations to you and your family and I agree with everyone else, your hair will grow back, should you have the same experience this time. Best of Luck to you.

Hi Anon,
Yes I take all the vitamins etc ; please note that my hair also grew like a weed DURING pregnancy, but it was approx 3-6 months afterwards that the hair started falling out from around the hair line.
Thanks for the warm wishes and have a great week :)

oh wow CONGRATULATIONS on the baby! I just had my second 7 weeks ago. My hair hasn't fallen yet. my fingers are crossed that it doesnt get too bad. I had shocking hair loss after my son, but I had put in a set of braids that were too tight, so I thought, THATS why it fell out. Yikes. Now Im worried about these braidlocks :P

CONGRATULATIONS indeed!!! You look absolutely gorgeous!!! The glow is there and you look so HAPPY!!!

As you noted, the hair thing is inevitable. After I had my daughter my hair dropped out in my crown and I panicked and cut it all off, but hey its all a journey!!!! And you never know your locks may become even stronger after it all!

AGAIN CONGRATS!!! How far alogn are you?

Thanks Gigglz and Felicia :)
21 weeks so far but kept it to myself until it was fairly safe.

Lol re the hair! I shall try not to panic (again) and remind myself that it'll grow back (if it does fall out badly!)

Hey There
Stumbled across your blog, glad I did very interesting. I also realized that we have alot in coming as far as the pregnancy things goes and of course Sisterlocks, lol.

I'm also on baby number 3 and have had to deal with Hyepemesis Gravidarum( which I think is the devil, lol) with my last and current pregnancy. I'm also on baby number three. LAst but not least. I have the same hair issues, with my last pregnancy I grew alot of hair during and lost hair afterwards, I just hope that this time around irs different. Time will tell.
Sorry for rambling.

Congrats on yuor baby and I pray that your pregnancy will be a breezee. Take Care
