51 years of marriage

No. Not Me... (not yet at least) but my parents. 51 years... that's a lot... a whole lot longer than I have been alive (obviously lol). I am married myself and marriage is not a bed of roses.. unless of course you count all the thorns and leaves... and bits of soil too. It is definitely what you make it - some days are good and some days not so much. There are ups and downs and smiles and frowns - just as there are with any relationship - be it fraternal, parental or the friendships you have with your BFFs!

I know we should never look to celebrities to be role models... and these days I am increasingly discouraged when I see yet another long term marriage headed for divorce (Seal and Heidi Klum spring to mine... and the ongoing rumours about Will and Jada calling it quits)... wouldn't it be so nice if we could see more 'celebrities' rocking up with long term partners and saying "Yup, I still love you... look how far we've come babe!"

When all is said and done - I want my children to look to their grandparents (both sets) for positive role models or proof that marriage can last a lifetime. It CAN still happen.. it CAN. At least that's what I choose to believe.

Any of you/your parents/relatives been married for aaaaaaaaaaaaages? Lemme know - after all - it IS the season of love eh?  Happy Valentine's y'all

:)

WELCOME TO THE TAPESTRY OF ME.... These are my words and this is my journey, from 'there to hair'! My life, the lessons learned in and through love and loves ones; and my hair affairs. http://lovelifelocks.blogspot.com

63??? Now that's AWESOME!!!
I hope you DO get them a medal of some sort :) what an example for the rest of us! At least let them know that there are strangers out here who think they're amazing and have achieved something wonderful! Happy valentines day parents of Anthia-Ofo!

The family pic is beautiful!! my parent's have been married 45 years & to this day I cant see why because they are like oil & water but I guess they love each other, but OAN: marriage is difficult (5 yrs for me) & some days I just want to scream divorce, but I love my hubby & I am going to continue to ask the Lord to strengthen us, & guide us through this marriage thing mentally, physically, & spiritually! Thanks for the lovely post

Thx Bajan. I will be sure to tell them. I'm going to Ghana in April and will let them know. My mum has had some health challenges, and my dad's role is more of a carer (with lots of help!) but they're still there aged 85yrs and 90yrs. God is good.Man! I never really thought about their marathon marriage until when I saw this post.

RespecT! Would love to spend the day with them questioning them about all their ups and their downs and how they overcame them. I would also speak to them individually and leave having learnt something new perhaps!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM!!
