Housekeeping - Photos, Sisterlocks & Hairloss

I know we say it all over the place - these pictures are copyright ME unless otherwise stated... and for the most part - I don't mind people using a photo to show their hairstylist or perhaps show a friend how your/their Sisterlocks might look.. but seriously, I don't think it's very nice to people to take other people's photos WITHOUT PROVIDING CREDIT... particularly if those photos are then used as the basis of a presentation or seminar or to (incorrectly) prove a point...

It took a helluva lot for me to post about my hairloss, to show those horrific photos of gaping scalp and falling hair...  It took everything I had to share that with others and I did it not so you could laugh at me and point fingers - though doubtless some of you will do that anyway - but I did it for the person(s) who read this and who know what it feels like to wake up with hair on your pillows and have no good explanation for what is happening to you other than 'it's stress' or 'it happens sometimes'. Hopefully my posts have encouraged you and at the same time - some of my readers have blessed me profusely with words of kindness and encouragement and I will forever be grateful for that.

If you feel that asking permission is just too hard for you to do then - assuming you are human and have a conscience - please do two things:
  1. Credit me as the source. Bajan Lily of Lovelifelocs.com. That way people who genuinely wish to know more about the condition can ask me about it or read about for themselves.

Seriously - let's think about that. Traction alopecia is normally confined to the edges of the hairline from excessive ponytails or tight braiding. I hardly wore either and my hair was retwisted every 8 weeks - neither of those things would be excessive.

I lost ALL of my hair - not just my edges or the hair on my head but the hair on my arms, legs, armpits etc as well. How could that possibly be traction alopecia? The logic doesn't add up.So don't use me as the poster child for why you should not get locks or sisterlocks or microbraids or why Black people's hair falls out etc.

I keep saying this and I will say it again - my hairloss was:
  • triggered by a significantly traumatic event and elevated stress levels (stress & trauma)
  • exacerbated by severe anaemia and depleted iron stores (low iron causes hair loss)
  • accelerated by severe telogen effluvium (post partum shedding gone mad)
In laymen's terms - my hair loss was the combined result of
  • pregnancy, low iron and stress
Of course I am probably preaching to the converted because I know that the vast majority of those who read my blog are genuine and good people just looking for information and frequently happy to share experiences and advice - beloved - you know I am not talking to you... but the cretins who trawl through here and have nothing good to say? Well - you're probably not even reading this at the moment because there was no pretty picture for you to steal - but if you are here, remember this:

God don't like ugly.

WELCOME TO THE TAPESTRY OF ME.... These are my words and this is my journey, from 'there to hair'! My life, the lessons learned in and through love and loves ones; and my hair affairs. http://lovelifelocks.blogspot.com

Speechless ... :(

For goodness sake! .... Speechless.

Dear Bajan,
You have been severely missed.
On behalf of the capital
A&@ H#%*s on the net who mindlessly abuse people and at times, intentionally, I apologise for the hurt and offense that they caused. We know that you told your story to help US, I have friends that have been helped by your experience. Please do not be discouraged.
Severely missed you, (I repeat)

However utterly utterly disgusted that one and one's family have departed for the tropics ... A month!! Well Jell!!! Xxx

ps it was an incredibly painful and somewhat humiliating experience. I felt violated but I guess it's the risk you run when you put stuff 'out there' - or so I'm told

I want to say that I can't believe it but I am learning more and more that people will do the most shameless things via internet. So sorry girl and I really hope they read this

Speaking of the cretins and their assumptions about your....

I posted a picture of my hair with rather limited lighting. The lightening over emphasized my widow's peak which made it look like I had lost hair at my hair line.

Some enterprising individual thought it would be cute to blog about my hair loss from wearing a scarf at night. I DO NOT, HAVE NOT, ever worn a scarf. I go to bed. Done.

Keep your chin up!
